Today’s News: Mark Zuckerberg kills animals now, humans share DNA with dogs, and more

May 27, 2011

Here are some fascinating articles that the humans (and animals ) at Current Instincts are reading today. Did we miss something major? Let us know below or send us an email.

1. Mark Zuckerberg, Animal Hunter In an interview with Fortune magazine, Facebook impresario Mark Zuckerberg said he will only eat animals he’s killed himself. There’s an anecdote in there about how he has apparently killed a chicken, goat and pig so far, and some weirdly pretentious reasoning behind his decision. Nothing gets us in the mood for this weekend’s Memorial Day barbecues like a lecture on meat-eating from Mark Zuckerberg. (Daily Intel via Fortune)

2. Kissing your pooch may give you canine DNA According to new research, dogs and humans have likely exchanged DNA from viruses. They’re called “retroviruses” and they could be potentially transmitted from smooching. Sounds a little gross when you think about it, but the upside is that we could all turn into dogs one day.  (MSNBC)

3. Large group of whale sharks gather by Mexican coast About 420 whale sharks have apparently decided to take their spring break to Mexico this year by creating the largest gathering of the species in one place. (Discovery News)

4. Photographer swims with jellyfish, doesn’t freak out A rather dapper-looking photographer named Sarosh Jacob visited Jellyfish Lake – yes that’s a real place – in Palau and shot a video that he shared with “The Today Show.” It’s pretty cool footage, but also a little scary since my mom has successfully conditioned me to be terrified of jellyfish. Thanks Mom! (MSNBC)

Mountain lion

It's real-life Cougar Town.

5. Man finds mountain lion in garage Let’s hear for Big Cats! A Southern California man got a feline surprise of epic proportions when he discovered there was a young male mountain lion hanging out in his garage. Is it weird that we’re actually a little jealous? (MSNBC)

Just when I thought I couldn’t hate Zuckerberg more, I guess he’s trying to show up the Google guy in who can be a bigger jerk.
