Today’s news: puppy cam brings happiness to all and a wolf attack

April 25, 2011

Here are some fascinating articles that the humans (and animals ) at Current Instincts are reading today. Did we miss something major? Let us know below or send us an email.

1. Puppy cam – best thing in the world but worst thing ever for your boss. Shiba Inu Puppy Cam is sweeping the nation – or at least our heart. You need to watch these puppies at play. Full disclosure: CI Susan spent most of Friday watching the puppies and giving her co-workers minute by minute updates. (Huffington Post)

2. Alligator finds way into woman’s bathroom. A woman in Florida found a 7 foot alligator in her bathroom. The woman opened her bathroom door, screamed, and then the gator hissed at her. Who knew gators could hiss? She thinks the unwelcome guest got in through a doggy door. (MSNBC)

No maps necessary.

3. Humpback whales’ navigation skills stump scientists. Humpback whales migrate hundreds of miles and rarely get off course. Despite ocean currents and bad weather, whales travel in straight lines to their destinations and scientists have no idea how they do it. (Treehugger)

4. Dogs compete with pee. Everything about pee is very important to dogs. Dogs not only use their pee to mark their territory, but they also compete for dog status depending on the height of their pee, leg-lift angle, and quality. Dogs also “countermark,” or pee where another dog has already peed, to establish a higher status. Did not anticipate writing the word “pee” so much this morning. (Discovery News)

5. Wolf attacks mother in Sweden. Wolf populations are on the rise in Sweden, and a 45 year ban on wolf hunting was recently lifted to combat the explosion. Wolf/human interactions have been on the rise and another woman got a little too close to the wild animals. A woman walking her child was attacked by two wolves. One wolf seized her dog and the woman acted how your supposed to when a wolf attacks you: by screaming and flailing her arms. (Treehugger)

I love the puppy cam and the kitten cam, they provide hours of distraction while working. Interesting brief about dog pee, I wonder if cats are the same way?
