Here are some fascinating articles that the humans (and animals ) at Current Instincts are reading today. Did we miss something major? Let us know below or send us an email.

1. Wild horses drag former Smashing Pumpkins’ bassist to jail In 2009, former Smashing Pumpkins’ bassist D’arcy Wretzky let her horses run free – and now she’s paying the price behind bars. She is charged with “animals running at large” because of complaints from neighbors that her horses had terrorized the small Michigan town she currently resides in. Wretzky had allegedly ignored fines and court dates stemming from the 2009 incident. Though the scariest part of this story might be her mug shot. (The Hollywood Reporter)

2. Tim Gunn tells designers: Make it work – WITHOUT fur “Project Runway” judge – and Current Instincts Hero – Tim Gunn is the latest celebrity to join PETA’s anti-fur campaign. Gunn, a longtime animals’ rights supporter, along with Oscar-nominated actress Taraji Henson and starlet Olivia Wilde, made the rounds during an event at New York Fashion Week to promote PETA’s mission. Henson told reporters, “There are other products we can use. Get a fake fur.” We couldn’t agree more! (ABC News)

3. These animals are either extinct or pretty close to it The New York Times has compiled an interesting photo gallery of a variety of different species, from a tree snail to a kouprey, which is described as a “200 pound forest ox,” who are either lost forever or very near to extinction. Sad to think about – but facts that we should keep in mind when discussing the impact humans have on natural environments. (NY Times)

4. The smartest dog ever hits the Today Show A 7-year-old border collie named Chaser can recognize more than 1,000 nouns, according to his owners.  And yes there’s a adorable video where “Today Show” host Matt Lauer tests their theory. Wait a minute – do I even know that many nouns? (Today Show)

5. Look at this adorable baby antelope Why? Do you really need a reason? It’s Friday! (Discovery News)
