This week’s animal pictures: Say cheese

February 3, 2011

Sometimes it seems like animals know they’re having their picture taken — and ham it up accordingly. In this week’s pictures, we feature a few of the creatures we’ve written about — and as —  smiling for the camera.

The Cow

Holy cow this guy is happy! (We couldn’t resist.) He probably heard an animal rights group is rallying for Taco Bell to go vegan. And with the fast food chain’s recent legal troubles over its meat, it may not be such a bad idea.

The Pig

Pigs are super smart — and their intelligence is being used to better the environment.

The Elephant

An elephant refuge — aka retirement home — in Tennessee may soon evolve into an educational center focusing on elephant care. Yay for elephants!

The Gorilla

Gorillas are starting to walk like man. It won’t be long before they take over the human race — and this dude knows it. Just look at his face!

The Rabbit

You’d be happy too if this was your year to shine.

The Orangutan

Scientists have discovered that orangutan DNA is more genetically diverse than originally thought, which means their chances of survival are actually quite good.  No wonder this guy is smiling! (Or perhaps he just knows that journalists everywhere are struggling with the spelling of “Orangutan”.)

We are semi-obsessed with orangutans. Just look at that face…amazing!

I think the orangutan and gorilla look like they’d make a fantastic Good Cop/Bad Cop combo.

Orangutan: “Listen, I like you. I feel like we have a real connection here. So why don’t we just chat a little … I’d hate to have to send my gorilla friend in here.”
