Great causes to support this holiday season

November 17, 2010

The writers of Current Instincts live pretty cushy lives. Despite our mounting student loan debts courtesy of Northeastern University, we do pretty okay for ourselves. But many people aren’t as fortunate as we all have been and since the holidays are upon us we’d like to bring attention to some groups doing great work this holiday season.

As most of you probably already know, over the weekend we participated in a blogathon to raise money for Bradyn, who needs a service dog. It’s not too late to chip in, donate over at mytailhurtsfromwaggingsomuch.com.

For the past two years, we’ve all been hearing about the terrible economy and how it’s effected almost every aspect of American life. One sector that got hit especially hard by the economy is animal shelters. Record numbers of animals were given up because owners could no longer afford to care for them. One amazing 10-year-old from Florida started a pantry for pet food so families could keep their pets. If you don’t live in Florida, you can visit The Pet Food Bank online or find animal shelters and pet stores in your area. Many are doing pet food drives now through the holidays. Too lazy or broke? Just click on the Animal Rescue Site. Every click raises money to feed animals.

We know there are a lot of worthy charities to give to who will be asking for donations around the holidays. Consider giving to one who help out our tiny best friends who sometimes get overlooked.
