Here are five fascinating articles that the humans (and animals) at Current Instincts are reading today. Did we miss something major? Let us know below or send us an email.

  1. A Boa Constrictor’s Immaculate Conception? A boa constrictor in North Carolina didn’t need a male’s sperm to birth children – she completed the miracle of life all on her own, thank you very much. Researchers say she gave birth to 22 baby female boas without the aide of a father, a discovery that disrupts common scientific understanding of reptile reproduction. (Discovery News)
  2. Goats Reach New Heights Several goats in Italy have scaled a mountainside dam at what appears to be a nearly 90 degree angle. The photos – shot by an Italian hiker – reflect a goat’s agility as well as the unique topography of the mountain, according to someone who studies such things. (National Geographic)
  3. The Next Predictor of the World Cup Has Arrived Paul the Octopus has a successor! And his name is also Paul! According to the Sea Life Aquarium in Germany, Paul 2.0 weighs 10.5 ounces and has a hometown in southern France. Only time will reveal if he inherited the previous Paul’s oracle abilities. (AP)
  4. Turkeys Offer Glimpse Into Dinosaur Life Scientists say that the brush turkey’s movements and body structure reveal valuable insight into the modern understanding of winged dinosaurs. As it turns out, wings may not have just been used for flight. (Live Science)
  5. A Whole New Meaning For ‘Cocktails’ Just in time for all those holiday parties comes a round-up of six festive meat-based drinks, including one with deer penis and another mixed with snake blood. Yum delicious! (Tree Hugger)
